Hi Donald

Ah did they say where it was in Hawaii? Looks like Kohala to me on the Big Island. I grew up there and paths like that require constant wear to keep them clear from vegetation - yeah even in lava fields. One amusing thing. He got all breathless saying it 'pointed to the Pacific Ocean' - ah dude everywhere you point when you are on an island in the middle of the Pacific island will....wait for it ......point to the Pacific Ocean.

I wonder where he pulled that date from/ Lol He might want to look at the dating of the various lava flows which have gone over that area.

I was in that area in 1972 and again in '73 as part of a UH archaeology team cataloging rock art.I'd say it something associated with the Army's Pohakuloa Training Area during WWII that area was heavily used.

Wonder how we missed it?

Went and looked up the Volcanic flows for that area of Kohala - and I remembered correctly:

""Kohala is the oldest volcano on the island of Hawaii. It is about one million years old and erupted for the last time about 120.000 years ago. Kohala makes up the northern part of the Big Island (think: Waipi’o valley) and used to be a lot bigger.""

So the last big eruption was 120,000 years ago..................
