Sweatman continues to outdo himself. His blog (Prehistory Decoded) is mainly concerned at the moment with puffing his book of the same name, in which he apparently derives the Egyptian pantheon from the same constellations he "found" at Gobekli Tepe, etc. The latest post shows a Late-Period painting of the Apis bull wearing a menat necklace, with the counterpoise shown over the bull's back. Sweatman's interpretation: "In Prehistory Decoded I link the Ancient Egyptian Apis-osiris god with comets. Just like all the other ancient bull-gods. Now, what's that on his back and head? A comet or a sun-disk?" I did comment, pointing out that it was a menat-necklace, but I doubt it will do much good. Here is the link: [martinsweatman.blogspot.com]

In happier news, Tepe Telegrams, the excellent blog run by the Gobekli Tepe team, has just published a very good interview on the current state of the research. It's a great antidote for some of the nonsense about the site that has unfortunately taken root in the popular imagination. [www.dainst.blog]
