There's a lot of nonsense on that Wikipedia entry. For example de Sudeley was the grandson of a one of
Henry I's twnty odd acknowledged bastards which wouldn't have gotten him much respect at all. Also the early Templars weren't monks but Knights who took religious vows and lived under a rule written by Bernad of Clairvaux, a Cistercian Abbot.
Ralph de Sudeley seems to have been a landed gentleman of modest rank who brought back some souvenirs/relics which allowed him to raise money for the Templars. Anything further is pure conjecture.
