Right, suggestions need evidence, but since the author isn't providing any, then I don't think a critic should have to either...
'I can think of no other way for that measurement system to reach Mexico other than via a Phoenician ship'- Lindsay McCauley, writer

What he thinks is not evidence. I can think of another problem, language barriers. When Columbus arrived, Native Americans had so many different languages and physical encounters they developed a pretty sophisticated sign language system. Ok, 'me Jane', 'you Tarzan' isn't that difficult to communicate even if you don't understand the others language completely. But it seems to me the differences in communicating math symbols would take a pretty fluent communication, which in turn takes time...a lot of it. That means convergence or independent invention seems the most probable (Occam's razor). A good system that works is the most likely to be reinvented rather than guessing about Phoenician contact.

That's a nice Phoenician ship, in fact IMO, it's too nice not to have gotten back. Did these ships normally sail alone where a disaster to one meant total failure, or did they have backup ships with them like the Nina, Pinta, and Santa Maria? Yes, backups can fail too: [www.theguardian.com] but wouldn't the people who financed these Phoenician ships/expeditions have any inkling as to where they intended to go and why? After all, the Spanish lost a lot of ships, but the fix was just send more after them.
