The problem with women's history is that we're looking for them in spots that are filled by men; leadership and warriors and unsurprisingly not finding them. Instead, we should look behind the scenes. For instance I've recently started studying the American Civil War. Of course Lincoln and Jefferson Davis are the leaders. Naturally, the generals are all men. BUT when you switch to espionage who is running the show? Women. In both the North and the South women spies were acting as sappers, seducing leaders, running vast and complex organizations smuggling drugs, weapons, extraditing prisoners etc.
