Looks more to me like they cut their own toes off.

Let's review what is known so far.
"The one clear lesson archaeologists have learnt is never to accept a
radiocarbon date at face value." P.E. Pettitt

Notice Pettitt's name is on the art paper (but not as an equal contributor). Pettitt at one time worked in a radiocarbon lab, so one would think he would know something about the subject on which he spoke. My question then would be, why wouldn't that same advice Pettitt gave on 14C also apply to all types of dating...like uranium dating for instance, which was used to determine the age of those doodles on cave walls for claimed Neanderthal art?

Pettitt seems to have support from John Hellstrom:
“There are a small number of uranium-thorium dating specialists who think bone can be dated,” says John Hellstrom from the University of Melbourne—who isn’t one of them. “The problem is that uranium moves around in bone, which invalidates the dating unless you can use a mathematical model of that movement to compensate. That is exactly what the authors of this study have tried to do.” Coupled with other evidence about the surrounding rock layers, the bones are “likely to be something around the age the authors claim,” he says, “but I would not give these dates hard-evidence status. More correctly, they indicate the bones are most likely at least tens of thousands of years in age.”

To say Neanderthals were us is like saying chimps are us also, since everyone in the great ape taxa shared a common ancestor if we go back far enough in time.

The more people believe Neanderthals were just like us only creates more of a paradox that proves they weren't.
If it is accepted Neanderthals had boats, needles, lissoirs, sewn clothes, graves, art, music, kindled fire and looked just like us according to some reconstructions, then why weren't they at the Yana River and on the Hawaiian Islands when AMH finally showed up? Neanderthals and their ancestors had hundreds of thousands of years longer to solve the difficult problems of living in Ice Age Eurasia than AMH.

If they were just like us they would have done just as we did.
If there is one thing AMH is noted for it is the populating of this planet and being extant, something Neanderthals failed completely in doing, therefore were just the opposite of us, and more like all the rest of the extinct archaics...Naledi, hobbits, and the invisible hominin at Cerutti.
