and more recently:

and a referenced article on previous scientific studies:
[skeptoid.com]
"They concluded:
the mutilations are the work of scavenger animals, mainly coyotes and birds; the mutilations occur after the animal has died; and any investigation of bizarre gross findings in dead cattle must rule out scavenging beyond any reasonable doubt before proceeding to investigation of other possibilities."
Simply put: the null hypothesis is natural causes.

There are dozens of news articles that reported the recent Silvies Valley Ranch incident, most are simply copy-cat repeats, but after looking at a number of them I found some contained more information than others. One thing missing in the articles (that would be needed to help eliminate natural causes) is whether or not the 5 deceased bulls where fenced in a separate lot or mixed together with the other cows on the same pasture. If pastured together, I can't think of any natural causes that would selectively target 5 large healthy bulls and not kill at least some of the smaller weaker calves, yearlings, and cows at the same time.
