Actually, a lot of the images from Egypt are brown moreso than red. I would have to ask how many images have you looked at? There are thousands upon thousands of images in Egypt proper, both in tombs and on temples. Many of them retain their colors. Some are reddish, some are brown, some are dark brown and some are light tan and pinkish. Many of the images in Egypt used red ochre pigment, which varies from brown to red depending on what it is mixed with used as well as things like heat. Many of the Egyptian images you see now are more reddish because of a number of factors, age, decay, heat, restoration treatments and so forth. This is actually pointed out by many of the various restorers. Even some of the more advanced technologies used like lasers can cause colors to be altered.

Not only that, but artists in tombs from ancient Egypt were not always trying to be 100% accurate in their depictions of Egyptians. Many images from Egyptian tombs are actually the same facial "template" over and over again, with various added things like hairstyle, colors and clothing used to distinguish deities from foreigners and foreigners from Egyptians. Teams who created these images often used such templates in various ways, mostly depending on the scale of the project, how much time they had or how much they got paid. One group did the grids, another did the outlines, another did color fill and another did the final outlines and/or reliefs. Within such an assembly line, some things like individual skin tones and individual expressions were sometimes overlooked. Trying to literally interpret every single statue or image from Egypt therefore is a waste of time as only some of the images were actually "accurate" while others were "more or less" good enough to get the point across. Case in point, why do you think that many of the various portraits of famous figures from Europe in the 17th and 18th century differ, even in their realistic depictions? If 17th and 18th century paintings of the same person don't all look the same, then it is even more likely that Egyptian portraits did not either. But I would say that the Egyptians chose red ochre for a reason and that was not because they were tan, because foreigners were depicted as tan. The Egyptians painted themselves brown, because that is generally how they looked, even though some were lighter and some were darker, most were generally brown. In fact there are many Egyptians to this day who are reddish brown in complexion, just like some of the ancient portraits.

A whole bunch of Egyptian images for you to look at:
