L. Cooper,

Thank you for your advice.

"In any event, it seems to me that to make any headway on your theory you are going to (at least) have to grapple with the finding that an eclipsed moon will at best have the color of a a very old and tawny brownish-red color"

Hmmm, you have described red granite quite accurately...

I have spent years (professionally) watching sunrises and sunsets...their color is as you say dependent on the atmosphere, though sunrise from Giza or Heliopolis will always be orange/gold, this is because of the moisture in the air caused by the Nile Delta (not dust), and sunsets viewed from Giza will trend to a deeper orange/gold depending on the will of the northern winds kicking up dust particles, neither are ever red.

Referencing R.O. Faulkner's book of the dead (p.42) shows a vignette that he describes:

"Vignette in four registers incorrectly termed Spell 16; Hor kneels in a boat steered by Horus adoring the *sun-god. In the second register the *sun-disc, streaming rays, is held up by two goddesses between the symbols of East and West, and is guarded by the Four Sons of Horus with knives on their knees. Below this the *sun-disc is raised up between four representations of Hor's human-headed soul to be adored by baboons and protected by animated ankhs carrying ostrich-feather fans. In the bottom register Hor and his wife, seated separately beside offering-tables, are lustrated and censed by a priest."

I hope you have a copy to look at, because here again I am reminded of your accurate description of a sanguine moon (lunar eclipse) especially in register two, note that gold/yellow paint is used throughout each of the four registers. Their are many examples of yellow/gold sun-discs throughout Faulkner's publication...and many sanguine discs...which all seem to be in the context of stellar (night time) or Lunar deities... for example just look at the bottom of p. 43, a perfectly accurate color of a sunrise.

If you need a copy I'm sure you can locate it online...let me know I will try to find it.

Best,

B.A.Hokom
