Lull and Belmonte, "In Search of Cosmic Order", Chapter 6 -'The Constellations of Ancient Egypt'. This used to be available free online, but I couldn't find it just now. Interlibrary Loan will get it for you - it has a helpful bibliography.

D. V. Etz, 'A New Look at the Constellation Figures in the Celestial Diaram', JARCE 34 (1997), 143-161. Etz asks many of the right questions, although he does not go far enough with his conclusions.

As to your Nome question, good luck. While many of the Nome names and ensigns had their roots in the circumpolar mythologies, I don't know who actually tackles this question. Newberry comes somewhat close in his article in Ancient Egypt 1914, pp. 3-8 - 'Notes on Some Egyptian Nome Ensigns and their Historical Significance'. [books.google.com]

If you find out more about this, please let me know. It is an interesting question.
