Hi Pistol,

Thanks for this - there are in fact a few more than these. I did a quick rough count and found about 10 or so - which would be in the range being a bit less than half as many as the ferrying texts. And interestingly, one of these (Utterance 359) then repeats its flying up over the Winding Waterway passage almost word for word as a ferrying across the Winding Waterway passage.

As to the "eastern side of the sky", which you interpreted as "the king flying (as horus) to the east to join Re at dawn" in your previous post, be aware that this is all but certainly an inaccurate view of these texts. The texts say "east side", and they mean "east side". They are referring to the eastern "side", or 'portion' or 'half' - and NOT "edge" - of the circumpolar sky of the time. Remember, the celestial north pole was closer to Alpha Draconis (Thuban) at the time of the writing of these texts, and so was nowhere near Polaris, where it is today. The King was ascending to reach either Polaris or Ursa Major - both of whom would at that time have been located in the eastern circumpolar portion of the sky in the hours between when Orion had arisen and yet before it had passed to the other (western) side of the meridian.

You also appear to be relying on J. P. Allen's translation which, although usually fine and commendable, has a few notable (to me) shortcomings to be mindful of, One of these is that he consistently translates "Re" as "Sun" - a hugely prejudicial translation. (Faulkner much more correctly maintains an unbiased approach by translating "Re" as "Re" in just about all cases in the PT's). These texts will make much more sense if you understand that there was a Duality to "Re" - to the writers of these texts Re existed both as a solar entity AND ALSO as a polar entity. So when "Re" is spoken of as being at, near, or approached to or from, the "eastern side" of the sky - more often than not what is being talked about is the Polar Re in the circumpolar sky being at, near, or approached to or from, the "eastern side" of the circumpolar sky .

Just try out this adjustment as you read through these texts and much of what seemed obscure before will now begin to make much more sense. (When reading Allen's translation, you will of course first need to untranslate his "Sun" back to "Re". The same is also true of many of the place names that he gives, which he unfortunately translates into their Greek names - thus tending to obscure their true locations as places in the night sky.)
