Hi Pistol -

> Is Faulkner's translation available online?
As far as I know Faulkner's translation is not available online. Oddly though, the Supplement section is (or was - I just now couldn't find it)

This statement is my own, I am not quoting anyone else here. That said, the earliest one to propose this sentiment was, I believe, Joseph Bradshaw (The Night Sky in Egyptian Mythology), who evidently began claiming such in the late 1930's. I only became aware of his work, however, well after I had developed many of my own somewhat similar understandings. Bradshaw had a lot of things more or less right, but also a lot of things quite wrong - plus I feel he did not well document his arguments, nor present them cogently.

I think that anyone who comes to the PT's in an unbiased way must at least become aware of the evident and inherent contradictions regarding Re's apparent regular appearances in what are clearly circumpolar contexts. Rather than try to twist and contort things every which way in order to account for a Solar Re in these situations it seems ever so much more logical to simply say "wait a minute, what if there were two aspects of Re being spoken of here?" It is kind of like the Emperor's new clothes. It is really a quite obvious solution once one looks with their own eyes and the peer pressure is removed.

Yes, this is heavily dressed up to appear as the Solar Re (except possibly for the Atum bit), which it mostly is - although it can also been seen as being symbolically relevant in regard to the Polar Re.

I don't think the Polar aspects of Re ever went away - ever. But it does appear to have gotten more and more buried over time - perhaps even to the point where some of the priests were not even aware it was still there. I don't know enough in regard to the later literature to be certain, but this is certainly how various spells of the BOD strike me.

My apologies again for hijacking this thread.
