"The myth of Atlantis and ancient Egypt are closely linked according
to Plato. He is the first to evoke the story of an island-continent,
of which the proud and powerful inhabitants were defeated by the
Athenians and sank into the waters, at the same time as Atlantis
itself, just after their military defeat. However, if Plato
extensively referred to ancient Egypt, using its priests as guardians
of the truth for his story, there is indeed an Egyptian source,
far older than the Athenian philosophers' texts, evoking the story
of a marvelous island, with abundant and rich resources, property
of a deity, suddenly disappearing under the Mediterranean waters.
What is the truth of Plato’s account and to what extent ancient
Egypt did influence his story?

Amandine Marshall is a Doctor in Egyptology and is currently working
on an habilitation thesis on the horse in Greek myths. By comparing
her knowledge of these two ancient civilizations, she was able to
establish the existence of this Egyptian source. Her work puts
into perspective the deceptive as much as brilliant invention of
Plato, and, in the light of this new Egyptian document, asks
another question: what if there wasn't one but two Atlantises?"
